On 20 January 2009 Asbestech Limited was presented with the ISO 14001:2004 Certificate of Registration by the British Standards Institution, following our successful registration to the international environmental standard on 23 December 2008. The certificate was received on behalf of the company by Diana Manthey, Management System Manager and presented by BSI Team Manager, Vanessa Downs.
Certification to ISO 14001:2004 confirms Asbestech’s dedication to continual improvement in all aspects relating to the environment. We have a commitment to all our customers to provide a service that assures safe asbestos removal whilst also ensuring minimal impact on the environment. To meet this requirement, we have identified all our environmental aspects and focus our attention on reducing the impacts. This includes greater recycling of materials, increased awareness of environmental issues amongst staff and the employment of best available techniques to help minimise emission and waste production.
The environmental management system has been integrated with the existing quality system to ensure that Asbestech’s management system meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004.
Daniel Chalkley, Managing Director, commented, “We looked around the office and saw where things could be improved with regards to recycling and minimising waste. Then we went on site and saw how our environmental performance could be bettered there too, starting with the reduction of vehicle emissions. We wrote new procedures, environmental aspects and impacts were scored, our existing quality manual was revised and reissued, and staff training was carried out. We’re extremely pleased to be certified to 14001; it demonstrates our commitment to the environment and to our customers, who like to know that they are dealing with an environmentally committed company. It’s a continual process and Asbestech is more than happy to keep improving”.
